On a tough day for the Braves, Nick Punto just added to their misery. Punto drove in two runs with an 11th-inning triple after St. Louis rallied in the ninth, giving the surging Cardinals a 5-3 victory over Atlanta on Friday night. Braves rookie Cory Gearrin (0-1) dug his own hole, plunking Ryan Theriot in [...]

Add to myYahoo!Facing Alex Rodriguez with the bases loaded hardly fazed Ricky Romero. Because what the Toronto pitcher saw earlier in the game, now that was truly scary. Romero got right back up after a frightening line drive flattened him, twice retired Rodriguez in dicey spots and led the Blue Jays past the New York Yankees 5-3 [...]

Add to myYahoo! In 110 years, the Cleveland Indians have never enjoyed an April like this. Their surprisingly good start took a new twist Friday night when Carlos Santana hit a grand slam with one out in the ninth inning to give the Indians a 9-5 win over the Detroit Tigers. “Unbelievable,” said shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, whose two-run [...]

Add to myYahoo!I didn’t see two innings of this one, so I’ve got next to nothing to say. I saw Jason Heyward’s homer, that was awesome.

Jason Marquis outduelled Tim Lincecum to pitch the Washington Nationals to a 3-0 win over the San Francisco Giants at Nationals Park on Friday.
Marquis pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits with seven strikeouts and not issuing a walk.
But I hardly give credit to Marquis.
The Giants' eight starters are batting .225 so far on this 10-game road trip. They've only had four extra base hits in the four games they've played so far, all doubles.
The Giants went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position Friday to extend their eight-game slump in such situations to .151 (8-for-53).
Washington outhit the Giants 7-5 Friday. San Francisco is 0-8 when being outhit by their opponents this season.
Laynce Nix hit a two-run home run in the second inning to drive in Wilson Ramos, who was credited with a double when Aaron Rowand and Cody Ross knocked gloves in right-center field as they converged on his line drive. The ball appeared to be in Rowand's glove before he collided with Ross.
In the fifth inning, Ian Desmond scored from second on a single by Marquis, who drove a chin-high fastball into the outfield to aid his cause.
Lincecum was nearly equal to Marquis, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven in seven innings without allowing a walk. But the Giants' bats fell silent again.

Add to myYahoo!Jason Marquis has been in the majors for more than a decade and still doesn’t consider himself a finished product. Marquis pitched a five-hitter to beat Tim Lincecum, and reserve outfielder Laynce Nix made the most of a rare start by connecting for a two-run homer that carried the Washington Nationals to a 3-0 victory [...]
