Add to myYahoo!Hey, another Jeff Bennett win last night. This was an ugly one, but nonetheless a win. The Padres came back to win with four runs in the ninth against San Fran's closer, so we didn't gain a game in the wild card - we're still 3 back with an elimination number of 3. Colorado also won, their ninth straight, as they continue to be the hottest team in baseball right now. I still contend that the East is within reach. The Mets lost again to Washington, who just own them right now. A lot of things will have to go our way, but it's kind of fun still being in it and having such a small margin of error.

Add to myYahoo!From today's UTK:
The nature of the news on Kelvim Escobar is all over the map. The swelling in his shoulder has gone down, and the team expects to start him this weekend, which confuses the playoff rotation a bit. To confuse matters even more, the team is going out of its way to deflect questions about the nature of the problem in his pitching shoulder is. As is, they've pushed his next start back from it's scheduled place in the rotation, making it unlikely he could go until Game Three of their LDS, no matter what the schedule. Don't expect much change to the postseason roster because of this, though?unlike the Yankees, the Angels have a deep bullpen and were likely to have had Bartolo Colon on the roster as a number four or long man anyway.

Add to myYahoo!Tonight the Marlins will try to get this spoiler thing down for more than just the first game of the series.
The Marlins starting pitcher is Daniel Barone.
The clubs have Jason Marquis on the lineup card.
Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Barone has been very good in long relief for most of the time he has been with the big club. His last start wasn't all that bad after he quit giving up home runs in the first inning. He probably won't go past five innings.
Marquis is a sinker ball pitcher and we all know how that goes. If he has it working, he can be tough. If not, it's party time. He pitched against the Marlins earlier this year and gave up 5 runs in 5 innings. Marquis has been know to give up the long ball when the sinker ain't sinking.
Ichthyomancy has another win on its mind and besides, it is time to get Barone his first major league win as starter.
Here's today's Ichthyomancy pick table:
Best of Luck to Everyone!

It is very possible that Cody could be the Marlins main center fielder next season.
The Marlins haven't decided their '08 plans in center field, but Cody Ross (.335 entering Tuesday) has emerged as a ''good candidate,'' Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday.
After watching some of the replay of last night's game and hearing Beinfest, more or less, back this up when answering the questions in the email portion of the show about next season's center fielder. He was asked the question about Ross being the everyday center fielder for next season, he responded: "Why not?"
Which probably means the organization won't actively pursue a center fielder in the offseason.
Cody being the starting center fielder isn't a problem as long as he can stay healthy and continue to hit right-handed pitching. Ross has decent enough range and a strong arm and maybe playing most everyday would help him in avoiding injuries. And it would be a bit different to have someone with consistent power roaming the Bermuda Triangle.
