Phillies Contreras scheduled for MRI (AP)

Jose Contreras’s strained right forearm was examined by team doctor Michael Ciccotti in Philadelphia on Monday and the Phillies’ closer is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the results of Monday’s exam were “more positive” than the first one on the 39-year-old right-hander in San Diego.

As activate RP Wuertz from DL (AP)

The Oakland Athletics have activated reliever Michael Wuertz from the 15-day disabled list and optioned pitcher Bobby Cramer to Triple-A Sacramento. Wuertz had been out since April 2 because of a strained left hamstring. The right-hander’s only appearance this season came on opening day against Seattle, when he threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
