Attendance: 26,923
Hero of the Game: Ricky Nolasco (0.162 WPA)
Goat of the Game: Ryan Webb (-0.368 WPA)
Play of the Game: Ruben Tejada singled to left field in the ninth inning versus Ryan Webb. Scott Hairston scores, Mets walk off. (-0.348 WPA)
The Miami Marlins were so close. This time, they were so close.
The Fish got down early to the New York Mets, but Ricky Nolasco held the fort for as long as he could. While his outing was not perfect, a five-strikeout effort was nothing at which to scoff. The Marlins hung on despite battling Chris Young, the Mets defense, and the sun at various points in the game. While both teams had some opportunities to score more than their two runs by the time the ninth inning rolled around, the Marlins in the end capitalized on one less opportunity than the Mets. The walk-off win for the Mets off of a Ruben Tejada single against Ryan Webb means the Fish have lost seven in a row to New York and have been swept twice in the last month.
But hey, this time, at least it felt close. #minorvictories, right?

Tim Hudson had one of his best games of the year, besting Cliff Lee in the finale of their three-game series with Phillies by allowing just two hits and pitching into the eighth inning. He earned his 16th win of the season in the process, helping the Braves earn a 2-1 victory.
Atlanta struck first against Lee in the second inning when David Ross hammered a one-out home run to center. Two singles and an error in the third inning loaded the bases for the Braves in the third for Dan Uggla, and he hit a deep sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
The offense managed no more after that. Braves hitters were hitless in eight tries with runners in scoring position against Lee, earning nine hits overall. Lee struck out 11 Braves in eight innings and did not issue a walk.
Meanwhile, Hudson cruised along, holding the Phillies to just a pair of singles through five innings but his sixth-inning error led to their only run. With Jimmy Rollins at first following a leadoff walk, a wild pickoff throw from Hudson allowed him to move to second. Juan Pierre sacrificed him to third and then Chase Utley hit a sacrifice fly to right that Jason Heyward made a nice diving catch on.
Hudson exited the game with one out in the eighth inning and Craig Kimbrel polished off the Phillies in the ninth for the win.

Once one moves past the inane (to be kind) timing of the Jake Odorizzi promotion to the active Major League roster and the obvious implications this has either on his ability to be on the Major League roster as soon as possible in 2013 or worse yet the potential burning of a year of service time to get Odorizzi two starts against Indians while purchasing his contract and putting him on the roster seven days before his debut, today is a day to be excited for as a Royals fan.
Not since a similarly named Changeling security chief on a remote space station was introduced to the public have we had such cause for curiosity. A franchise then was getting a bit of a face-lift. A rebranding, if you will. It was a different time then. The Royals still had one last strike-eradicated run at contention left in them. They hadn't embarked upon a 18-season run of futility. Just as that rebranding was only moderately successful, one cannot help but be skeptical as to how successful this run will prove to be.
Of course, this time around the rebranding will occur while no one is watching. Well, at least no one in Kansas City, as the revolution will not be televised (in-market).

Simmons is back in the lineup.
Bourn jammed his left thumb in yesterday's game and is swollen and sore today.
Hudson needs his best stuff if he's going to beat Cliff Lee today. Go Braves!

Get out the broom breakers, because the Miami Marlins are looking to bust up a sweep.
The Fish meet the New York Mets in the final game of a three-game series, and they are looking to avoid another sweep at the hands of the Mets. Ricky Nolasco is on the mound facing Chris Young.
Lineup
Here's the lineup that was not posted in game preview.
Ugh.
