Add to myYahoo! One night after being one-hit, the Colorado Rockies broke out with a whopping six hits, and that was enough for a bounce-back victory. Jason Hammel pitched a season-high 6 2-3 innings and bunted home a run to give the sputtering offense a boost and help Colorado beat the Florida Marlins 3-1 Saturday night.

Martin Prado had three RBIs, Brian McCann drove in two runs and Tim Hudson outpitched Tim Lincecum as the Atlanta Braves registered a 5-2 victory over the host San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Hudson (3-2) gave up two runs and nine hits in 8.2 innings to break a personal two-game losing streak. The right-hander didn't walk anybody and struck out four.
Craig Kimbrel retired Buster Posey on a fly ball for the final out to notch his sixth save.
Prado had run-scoring singles in the third and fifth innings with the latter one giving the Braves a 2-1 lead.
Prado's final RBI came on a seventh-inning groundout that plated the first in a three-run seventh. Lincecum left the game with the bases loaded and one out and McCann culminated the uprising with a two-run single to center off reliever Javier Lopez.
Lincecum (2-2) had a shaky outing, walking a career-high six in 6.1 innings. He gave up five runs and six hits and struck out six.
Atlanta's Nate McLouth reached base three times on a single and two walks and scored all three times.
San Francisco scored in the second inning when Cody Ross singled home Pat Burrell, who had three hits. Miguel Tejada's ninth-inning sacrifice fly accounted for the other run.

After a week of mostly shaky pitching performances from the Rockies, Jason Hammel came through with a well pitched gem as well as a crucial RBI to give the Rockies a three to one victory and a split series in Florida heading into Sunday's showdown between Josh Johnson and Ubaldo Jimenez. On the mound, Hammel pitched six and two thirds innings, scattering seven hits and a walk and giving up just a run before making way for Matt Lindstrom.
Meanwhile, on the offensive side, he contributed the Rockies third RBI of the night in the decisive sixth inning. Todd Helton and Seth Smith hit back to back doubles to lead off giving the Rockies runners on second and third with none out. Helton would score on a Ty Wigginton sacrifice fly and after Jose Morales was intentionally walked, Smith scored on a well executed squeeze bunt by Hammel.
The Rockies scored in the first after Dexter Fowler led off with a walk and eventually came around to score on a Troy Tulowitzki single. Colorado missed out on a significant scoring threat two innings later when Gonzalez failed to come through with the bases loaded and two outs. Gonzalez finished zero for, while Jonathan Herrera and Tulowitzki each had a pair of hits. Helton's double was the 532 of his career, drawing him to within two of Lou Gehrig for 31st on the all time doubles list, and his 901st career extra base hit, pulling him within one of Nap Lajoie for 59th on that list.
Rafael Betancourt pitched the eighth and Huston Street the ninth to preserve the victory, it was Street's seventh save of the season.

Add to myYahoo!Note: This post was made with one hand as writer Trevor Cole has suffered a short-term injury to his right hand and cannot function properly with it. For that reason, I'll keep it simple and stick to the banter on the first two losses in the Atlanta series.
The Giants had a great time on the road, and have now returned for a short weekend series with the Braves, and they've all the sudden hit a wall. Everyone was expecting the team, myself included to take off once Cody Ross returned and guys got back into their 2010 rhythm. But through 2 games, that hasn't been the case. The Giants offense
was shut down by Braves' youngster Tommy Hanson, who out-dueled fellow youngster Madison Bumgarner in the win. Hanson held the Giants to just 3 hits and a run in 8 strong before relinquishing duties to right-handed, flame throwing Billy Wagner -clone, Craig Kimbrel. What was more concerning for Giants fans was the outing had by stud lefty Madison Bumgarner. The guy who had a 2.18 postseason era in '10 is sporting a 7.79 mark with more walks than strikeouts in 4 stars. Now keep in mind, MadBum is still crazy young at age 21, so to expect him to be Tim Lincecum/Matt Cain already is unrealistic. That said, if he can't make it out of Aprill with an era down closer to 5, the Giants may need to consider giving him some work back in Fresno.
Saturday's game was a little better offensively, but they still mustered just 2 runs off of Timmy Hudson. The Braves didn't get to the Giants' Timmy early, which normally bodes well for the right hander, but they knocked him out in the 7th before opening the game with a hit off of Javier Lopez (the first RBI hit I
think I've seen him surrender in an SF uni, LOL). Lincecum didn't have his A-game, but once again, the offense hid under a rock and wasn't heard from at all. The ace suffered through his roughest start of the year, allowing 6 runs and 6 walks in 6.1 innings of work. Then Lopez came in and the flood gates opened. What surprisess me though, is that the Cody Ross-infused lineup hasn't produced better results. Now, don't take my concern for worry, cause these guys will figure it out, just worried they're not taking advantage of their home time before leaving for the road again on Monday... A couple of other points I wanted to touch on was the fact that Pat "The Bat" seems to have found his stroke. The long ball has been there all year for Burrell, but the average hasn't, and now after a 3-hit game Saturday, he's at a respectable .250. Respectable only because he's amongst the league leaders in home runs. Now if it were anyone else hitting sub-.250, it'd likely cost them their everyday gig.
Note: Again, sorry about the incapacitated hand, which I hope relieves itself in the coming days. Regardless though, stay tuned here cause we'll be putting something up a few times per week!

Our Tim was better than their Tim today.
Tim Hudson battled back from two poor outings and came within one out of his first complete game since 2008 in the Braves' victory over a wild Tim Lincecum and the Giants, 5-2.
The Giants scored against Hudson early, but he managed to keep the damage to a minimum. In the second inning, Pat Burrell doubled with one out and scored on a Cody Ross single. Burrell's double was the first of his three hits in the game.
While Hudson kept the Giants at bay, the Braves' bats went to work against Tim Lincecum, who was unusually wild. With one out in the third, Nate McLouth singled and Hudson walked for Martin Prado; he promptly delivered a single to left to tie the game. Prado struck again in the fifth, delivering an RBI single with two outs to score McLouth who had walked with one out.
Lincecum finally caved in the seventh. He surrendered a leadoff double to Alex Gonzalez and issued a second walk to McLouth. Following a sacrifice bunt, Prado again delivered with help from the Giants' defense. He smacked a ground ball to Freddy Sanchez and with the infield in, Sanchez threw home, but the throw was off allowing Gonzalez to score Atlanta's third run. Once Lincecum walked Jason Heyward, it was the end of the game for him, but the Braves continued their onslaught. With two outs and Javier Lopez pitching, Brian McCann lined a single to center to score Prado and Heyward.
The Giants attempted a comeback in the ninth. After Pat Burrell's second double of the game and a Cody Ross single to start the inning, Miguel Tejada drove in Burrell with a deep sacrifice fly. Craig Kimbrel entered his third straight game with two outs and retired Buster Posey for the final out to earn his sixth save.
Lincecum entered the game having only walked seven batters total in his four previous starts, but walked six in his 6.1 innings. The six walks are a new high for Lincecum in a single game.
