Marlins offer Jorge Jimenez back to Red Sox

This time, as with most times, the Rule 5 draft of Jorge Jimenez didn't work out.

...the Marlins determined Jimenez wasn't part of their plans, so they have decided to cut ties with the 25-year-old third baseman.

On Sunday morning, the Marlins offered Jimenez back to the Red Sox.

Jimenez joined the Marlins at the Winter Meetings in December. To complete the Matt Lindstrom trade with the Astros, Houston picked Jimenez in the MLB phase of the Rule 5 Draft, and then sent him to Florida. Now, for Lindstrom, the Marlins have received lower-level pitching prospects Robert Bono and Luis Bryan.

If the Red Sox don't want him back, and he clears waivers, the Marlins can assign him to the minors.  All of that probably won't happen.  Though it could.

With a Rule 5 draft player he must be kept on the Major League roster all season and the Marlins just don't have the space for a 3rd baseman.  This means, more than likely, Jorge Cantu will be the third baseman and Gaby will be the first baseman to start the season.  Not really surprising, but it wasn't a bad idea to see if Jimenez could give the club some immediate return on the Lindstrom trade.  It just didn't work out.

If the Red Sox want him back, the Marlins are out $25,000 for the experiment.  But hey, you put your money down and roll the dice and take your chances.  But a Rule 5 draftee is like playing a hop bet at craps, most of the time it doesn't work out.  But every once in a while, you get lucky.

Talkin' Cubs Live - Cubs vs. Reds - 03/21/10

Spring Training Game Nineteen: Cubs (10-7) vs. Reds (ss) (7-8)
Game Time - 3:05pm CDT
Coverage - TV: None - Radio: 720 WGN
Location - Goodyear Ballpark, Goodyear

Carlos Silva (2-1, 6.00/2.55) vs. Justin Lehr (0-0, 4.26/1.74)

The final two weeks of Spring Training begins today for the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs made two more roster cuts on Saturday that reduced their Spring Training roster to 40 players ... two weeks from today the Cubs must turn in their Opening Day roster.

Justin Berg will go east with the Cubs when the season begins. Lou Piniella said on Saturday that Justin Berg has made the Cubs roster.

James Russell, John Gaub, Mike Parisi and Marcos Mateo are the four pitchers competing for the final spot in the Cubs' pen.

During his pre-game show on Saturday, Lou Piniella said he would announce his starting rotation late in the week ... sometime after Wednesday.

Today is the first of back-to-back days in Goodyear for the Cubs. Lou Piniella's crew will travel back to face the Indians on Monday. Look for Piniella to run out his B-Team this afternoon. Piniella said several of his regulars would stay behind in Mesa and work with Rudy Jaramillo ... instead of traveling to Goodyear to play the Reds.

Kevin Millar is expected to start in left field this afternoon.

Lincecum wild but pitches into 6th (AP)

Two-time reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum was a bit wild early on Sunday in a game against San Francisco Giants minor leaguers, but still managed to throw 5 2-3 shutout innings. While his Giants teammates were playing against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Tucson, the 25-year-old right-hander walked five hitters, gave up [...]

2010 Yahoo Fantasy Baseball

UPDATE 3: League three needs three more players. Tkx. It drafts this coming Saturday night.

UPDATE 2: I've opened League 3 due to requests for another. The details are listed below.

UPDATE: League 1 drafts on Saturday night, and I need one more person to join the league, otherwise we'll have to reschedule the draft. League 2 is full. I'll probably open a third league when the existing two are full. I'm going with just eight team leagues this year, as it makes for much stronger teams, I think.

I've opened up the Rangerfans Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Leagues (as they just opened for business tonight). I've found these leagues have better and nicer drafts than the public ones where you get a lot of asshats making nuisances out of themselves in drafts. I've opened up more than one at a time this time around.

On another note, I will say what I always say. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU DO NOT INTEND ON PLAYING THE ENTIRE YEAR OUT! If there's one thing I hate, it's people who sign up and then never play. I just care about having people that don't quit.

Hope to see the regulars back out there again.
