Hank: Girardi Will Be One of the Greatest
Managers Ever

From Kevin Kernan:

Hank Steinbrenner told The Post yesterday that he is extremely impressed with what he has seen in his new manager this first week. How impressed?

"Truthfully," Steinbrenner said, "I think Girardi is going to end up being one of the greatest managers in the history of the game. That's my gut feeling. He reminds me of Billy Martin - without the baggage."

That's some heavy praise, but that's how strongly Steinbrenner feels about Girardi.

Hank's dad, the Boss, George Steinbrenner felt that way about Martin, but as Hank said, there was baggage with Billy.

I'm glad he's confident in the guy, but isn't this just adding even more pressure?
When told of Hank Steinbrenner's comments, Girardi was touched. "That's a nice compliment," he said as he sat on the edge of his office desk. "It feels great to hear that."
