CC Sabathia ignored a scary comebacker off his chest for his 18th victory, Mark Teixeira homered twice and drove in a season-high five runs and the New York Yankees resumed their cruise to the AL East title with a 10-1 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. Sabathia (18-7), who was 1-3 in early [...]

Add to myYahoo!Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald caught up with Milton Bradley on Saturday and his interview with Bradley is very interesting to say the least. Bradley scratched himself from the lineup once again, but did not want to talk about his knee. He did have this to say ...
"... The only time he became expansive at all was when he was asked if he had enjoyed his first season in Chicago."
"Not really," he said. "It's just not a positive environment. I need a stable, healthy, enjoyable environment. There's too many people everywhere in your face with a microphone asking the same questions repeatedly. Everything is just bashing you. You got out there and you play harder than anybody on the field and never get credit for it. It's just negativity."
"And you understand why they haven't won in 100 years here, because it's negative. It's what it is."

Add to myYahoo!Blowing leads has been an uncomfortable trait of the Colorado Rockies lately. They did it again Saturday night, only this time, they came back in a hurry and went on to pound the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-4 and open a little breathing space in their wild-card race. The victory, combined with San Francisco's 12-1 loss at [...]

Add to myYahoo!Game One Hundred Forty-Seven - Cubs 1 Cardinals 2
WP - Ryan Franklin (4-3, BS 5) LP - Carlos Marmol (2-4) Save - None
For the second game in a row the Cardinals won the game in the ninth inning off a Cubs' reliever, on Saturday it was Carlos Marmol's turn. After the Cubs could not scratch out a run in eight innings against Chris Carpenter, they tied the game at one in the ninth off of Ryan Franklin.
Micah Hoffpauir, a late substitute for Milton Bradley, put together a 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate and led off the ninth with a single. Sam Fuld pinch ran and advanced to third on a single to right center by Geovany Soto. Jeff Baker hit a 2-2 pitch from Ryan Franklin into right and tied the game at one. Bobby Scales grounded into the Cubs' fourth double play of the afternoon to end the inning.
Ryan Ludwick started the ninth inning rally with a single to center. Mark DeRosa attempted to sacrifice him to second but bunted the ball back to Marmol. Ludwick was forced at second but Ryan Theriot's throw to first was high ... and DeRosa was safe.
On a 0-2 pitch to Yadier Molina, Tony LaRussa called for the hit and run. His catcher hit the ball into left in the space vacated by Theriot. DeRosa advanced to third with one out.
Brendan Ryan gave the Cardinals the win with a single to left on a 1-2 pitch. DeRosa scored and cut the Cardinals magic number to four games.
The Cardinals shortstop drove in both runs for the Redbirds on Saturday afternoon. Brendan Ryan hit his third home run of the year in the fifth inning, a solo shot to left with a little help from Bobby Scales.
The veteran minor league infielder tried to make a leaping catch near the wall in left center on the fly ball hit by Brendan Ryan. The ball went into Scales' glove then bounced out and over the wall to give the Cardinals a one-run lead.
Ryan Dempster pitched his best game of the year. Dempster threw eight innings of one-run ball, allowed eight hits, one walk and struck out six. Dempster did not make any mistakes on the afternoon as the Cubs wasted another great outing by one of their starters. While Dempster was credited with one earned run, Brendan Ryan's assisted home run is a catch that a Major League outfielder must be able to complete.
The Cubs lost for the seventh time this season in St. Louis (1-7) and of their last 12 losses in St. Louis ten have been decided by two runs or less ...

Add to myYahoo!Pedro Martinez knew he wouldn't last long after straining his neck during a second-inning at-bat. Javier Vazquez outpitched an ailing Martinez, and the Atlanta Braves survived a shaky ninth inning to snap Philadelphia's six-game winning streak with a 6-4 victory over the Phillies on Saturday night.

Two veterans face off to determine...nothing, really. Third place in the NL Central, I guess. If Michael Bourn runs absolutely wild he may get to 60 stolen bases....So there's that!

Add to myYahoo! The playoff situation: Colorado is 2.5 games up on San Francisco, 4 up on Florida, and 4.5 on Atlanta. The Rockies will likely be in with a 8-6 record down the stretch--and this should be one of those wins, putting it simply.
The Rockies throw out their DRAGONSLAYER 2.0, Jason Hammel, against the talented Max Scherzer.

Scherzer is certainly not chopped liver either--his 3.72 FIP, 9.11 K/9, and 3.3 WAR are evidence of that.
The Rockies should win this game. Omar Quintanilla's pixies told me so.
GO ROCKIES!!!
Lineups will be posted when I return from the CSU game (GO RAMS) or when another staff member reads this, whichever comes first.
