St. Louis manager Tony La Russa pulled off a masterstroke by bringing in Allen Craig as a pinch-hitter and watching the replacement deliver the go-ahead run that gave the Cardinals a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in Wednesday’s World Series opener. Craig’s slicing hit in the sixth inning fell inches in front of sliding [...]

Add to myYahoo!Over and over, Chris Carpenter insisted his elbow was fine. Sure, he got treatment, but who isn’t sore this time of the year? There was no let up from the Cardinals ace, who gave his all on defense and kept it close for six innings in St. Louis’ 3-2 victory in the opener of the [...]

Add to myYahoo!Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz and the homer-happy Texas Rangers experienced another power outage in the opening game of the World Series. This time, they hope the juice gets flowing again before it’s too late. The big hitters in the Rangers’ potent lineup fizzled in Game 1 on Wednesday night. Baffled by Chris Carpenter and the [...]

Add to myYahoo!Nelson Cruz sprinted over to the foul line, desperately trying to run down Allen Craig’s tailing liner. The right fielder came up just short, and so did the Texas Rangers. Craig’s pinch-hit drive landed an inch or two in front of Cruz’s outstretched glove for a go-ahead single off reliever Alexi Ogando in the sixth [...]

Add to myYahoo!Pinch-hitter Allen Craig singled in the go-ahead run off reliever Alexi Ogando in the sixth on a sinking line drive that dropped just in front of right fielder Nelson Cruz, and the St. Louis Cardinals led the Texas Rangers 3-2 after six innings Wednesday night in a chilly World Series opener. On a night when [...]

Add to myYahoo! On a cold night that seemed more appropriate for football than baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers were tied 0-0 after three innings in Wednesday night’s World Series opener. A fired up Chris Carpenter escaped a two-on, no-outs jam in the second inning when the Rangers’ Mike Napoli hit into an inning-ending double [...]

Team OPS - Regular Season (2011)
Cardinals
Home: .745 (#10)
Away: .785 (#1)
Rangers
Home: .860 (#1)
Away: .740 (#7)
The Rangers are an exceptional offensive team at home, but that advantage could be blunted because they will be facing the best road hitting team in baseball. The Cardinals demonstrated that in scoring 30 runs in 3 games in Milwaukee, against another team that had been great at home all year. There could be some high scoring games in Texas if the starting pitching doesn't improve dramatically (it is 0-0 through 3 innings, so maybe it will be). ![]()
