Add to myYahoo!Grady Sizemore practiced some sliding — and the Cleveland Indians are delighted the three-time AL All-Star’s recovery is still headed in the right direction. Sizemore said he felt good Friday night after going feet first into a sliding bag. He repeated the drill four times. “I felt fine,” Sizemore said, admitting he was a bit [...]

Opening Day is less than two weeks away, and it coincides with something the league would just as soon forget: the steroids scandal involving home run king Barry Bonds.
The former San Francisco Giants left fielder goes on trial Monday, accused of lying to a federal grand jury investigating the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative, known as BALCO.
As hard as it is to imagine, Bonds hasn't roamed the area in front of the bleachers at AT&T Park for three years now. Seems so much longer than that, right?
These days, the biggest problem the Giants have is deciding which mediocre player will get the starting job in Bonds' old position come Opening Day. Whoever it is won't hit 72 home runs, that's for sure.
Travis Ishikawa (who has been seen more and more in left this spring) is competing with the likes of Aaron Rowand, Mark DeRosa, and incumbent Pat Burrell (who will likely win the starting job). Rowand lost the starting job in center to Andres Torres, DeRosa is coming off his worst season as a pro, and Ishikawa is just looking to expand his repertoire by playing other positions than just first base.
It's a nightmare for Giants manager Bruce Bochy, right? Wrong.
Truthfully, the Giants should be happy with all this competition. After all, Bonds is gone, most of last year's players are back, and they're the defending-freaking world champs. Something they never were with Barry.

Add to myYahoo! There wasn’t much doubt that this was going to happen at some point this spring, it was just a matter of when it was going to happen. Today, the news came out that the Mets finally released the chronically under-performing Luis Castillo. It came out from the beat reporters that Castillo asked for his release ... Continue Reading

Add to myYahoo!Jeff Suppan must know his time as a San Francisco Giant is quickly drawing to an end. The 35-year old journeyman signed on with the World Champs over the winter hoping to make the club with a spring training invite. But his last two starts (and the fact that the Giants are already pressed for roster spots) have not done much to impress the Giants brass.
Suppan got rocked in four innings Friday as the Los Angeles Dodgers (7-15) beat the Giants 6-3 in an exhibition game at Scottsdale Stadium. The right-hander allowed seven hits and two earned runs against a Dodgers team that fielded former Giants Juan Uribe and Eugenio Velez. The Giants fell to 17-5 with the loss.

Add to myYahoo! This spring, Jake Fox has been kicking arse at the plate and taking names. He?s hit an astounding seven homers ? with two more on Thursday -- during the spring and was a major reason for the Baltimore?s win over Pittsburgh, 13-3.
One would think right now that Fox should be included on the roster coming up north to Baltimore. I would tend to agree; however, what position would he play? First? Outfield? Catcher? Designated Hitter?
Right now, it?s a backup catcher spot. He?s fighting with Craig Tatum ? who performed competently last year -- for a job.
I don?t know if we are seeing the real Jake Fox ? not likely ? or just a guy having an amazing Spring Training and getting timely hits off pitchers that will more than likely start their season in the minors.
Whatever is happening, let?s hope he has enough bullets for the regular season.
Let?s hope it?s just more than a hitter just simply having a good month.
Again, it?s only Spring Training?
