Add to myYahoo!Houston Astros right fielder Hunter Pence was scratched from manager Brad Mills’ original lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night because of a hyperextended left elbow. The injury occurred in Friday night’s 7-3 win, when Pence hit a grounder to first base and dove into the bag trying to avoid James Loney’s tag.

Add to myYahoo!Matt Holliday was determined to try anything to lift the St. Louis Cardinals out of their recent funk. The home run worked best. The outfielder, with high socks and a new pair of pants, hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning that helped the Cardinals snap a season-high seven-game skid with a 5-4 [...]

Yankees 4
(40-29, 17-12 away)
Cubs 3
(29-41, 16-21 home)
Curtis Granderson hit a tie breaking sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and Brett Gardner made a terrific play in the outfield to lead the New York Yankees to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
The Yankees starting pitcher was A.J Burnett. Went 5.1 innings, 2runs given up, 3 walks, 8 strike outs, that just shows you how good his stuff is with 8ks, also gave up a two run long ball. The pitch count was 104 with 59 of them being strikes. That means they had to use 4 relievers. Three of them pitched perfect baseball. Wade .2 innings , Noesi 1 inning, Robertson 1 inning with 2ks.
(Top 3rd Yankees 2 Cubs 0)
Cgrandy ripped a single into right center. Teixeira grounded out to first moving Granderson over to second base. Arod ripped a single to left moving Granderson to third base. Robby Cano don?t cha no pinned a ball to the ivy a double, scored Granderson, moved Arod to third. Yanks are in business with a 1-0 lead and men on 2nd and 3rd. Swisher drove the ball to deep center plenty of room for Arod to tag and score, Cano tagged and went to third base. The yanks did not make any thing happen after that. Other than Martin got a stolen base. But after that fly by Swisher made it 2-0 yanks.
(Bottom 4th Yankees 2 Cubs 2)
DeWitt walked to start the inning. Ramirez followed by striking out swinging. Then Pena launched a 386-foot shot to right. That was it for Burnett?s mistakes.
(Top 6th Yankees 3 Cubs 2)
Nunez singled to center to begin the inning. Burnett sacrificed down to first to move Nunez to second base. Gardner tapped an infield hit to short stop, moved Nunez to third also 90 feet away from scoring. Granderson hit a fly ball to right , that gave Nunez room to tag and score.
(top 9th Yankees 4 Cubs 2)
One out cause Arod struck out looking followed by Cano?s single. 33 Swisher walked. Moved Cano to second. Men at second an first one out. Martin fouled out over by first. Nunez doubled that scored Cano, Swisher was thrown out at the plate.
(Bottom 9th Yankees 4 Cubs 3)
This inning belonged to Mariano Riviera the best pitcher in baseball history. Its not that he pitched bad he just missed placed one ball that cost him a R Johnson 378 home run to left center it was done after that. He shut them down. Yankees win!!! Yankees win!!! Yankees win!!!
Two of the worst base runners in baseball belong to the Yankees. Brett Gardner one of the fastest in the MLB. It still like He can steal a base or he?s getting pick off. Jorge posada the man who thinks he has Gardner?s speed. Posada is always stretching singles into double then gets tagged out in the middle it not even close. That?s been on my mind with Gardner?s performance on the base path today.

Add to myYahoo!Mike Pelfrey was the story of the night. He threw his third career complete game allowing 1 run on 5 hits and no walks. The only run he allowed was a solo shot by Mark Trumbo.
