Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is out of the starting lineup one day after he left a win over the Nationals because of a sore left ankle. Ramiro Pena got the start for Wednesday night's game against Washington. Jeter left Tuesday's 5-3 victory after seven innings. He went 0 for 3 with a walk and is [...]

Aaron Harang looked really good last night, but clearly he was somebody evil like Gengis Kahn or Immanuel Kant in a previous life because he's getting some serious karmic retribution in this one.
Daniel Ray Herrera got his first big league win last night. Braves hitters looked completely unsure of how to approach hitting him. It was quite humorous to watch. And it's a shame that the rain came because Aaron Harang looked outstanding in his first 2 innings of work. He was throwing strikes and hitting 92 and 93 regularly on his fastball. And true to form, the offense scored 7 runs in a game that Harang wasn't going to get the decision. He's going to go off on his teammates one of these days.
Mark Sheldon has updates on Votto, Volquez, and Encarnacion. The skinny: Votto could be rehabbing soon. Volquez is throwing again, but still a few weeks away. Edwin is swinging again, but they are being cautious.
Mike Lincoln has cleared waivers. Redleg Nation thinks this is a precursor to a DFA. Personally, I think it was just a feeler to see if they could DFA him.
Alex Gonzalez had the #2 Web Gem last night. I'm not sure how that play is better than Ryan Zimmerman's. It definitely shows off Gonzalez's range though.
Chris Dickerson and Daniel Ray Herrera kicked off the Reds Success League yesterday. I love stories about players working in the community. I don't think it should be required of players, but I truly respect those that want to get involved in their communities, especially when it includes working with kids.
Doug has an updated minor league depth chart with some cool color coordination for who's hot and who's not.
The new version of MLB.com’s At Bat will see game video streamed live. Now I REALLY want an iPhone.
Who Has the Brainiest Team in Baseball? The Wall Street Jounal looked at education rates for each team. The Reds are, um, under-educated.

Add to myYahoo!Yesterday in Fish Bites, I posted a link to an interesting quickie study using Baseball Musing's Lineup Analysis tool of the potential for one of Tony LaRussa's famously quirky moves: batting the pitcher slot 8th instead of 9th. Here's a quick look at[...]

What is the relationship with Sports Collector's Digest and Coach's Corner? According to the NY Daily News . . . it's over.
To summarize the story like the end of every Scooby Doo episode: - Coach's Corner and SCD were receiving a lot of tough questions from collectors over the authenticity of their auction items. - Collectors began questioning the authenticity of the items and the alleged improper relationship between a company built to be a voice of collector (SCD) and a company with a questionable reputation (CC). - TS O'Connell was tired of fielding questions about the authenticity of the items and the stopped taking comments on his blog (now an online column). - The conversation didn't stop, it moved somewhere else - blogs like Mike the Ring Guy. - Two organizations who may have been leaning on each other for survival are standing alone.
Was SCD pressured to stop taking advertising dollars from Coach's Corner? Did the internet and bloggers have an affect? Or as the comments on the Mike the Ring Guy's blog suggest - is this the tip of the iceberg? "And they would have gotten away with it, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

Add to myYahoo! It’s been a rough year all around for Phillies pitchers at home in 2009. Rougher for some than others, though. The chart below shows, for each Phillies pitcher who has faced at least 30 batters at home this season, the percentage of all opposing hitters who have batted at Citizens Bank Park the [...]
