Cards move within 1 win of World Series (AP)

The bumbling Brewers made four errors that led to three unearned runs, and the St. Louis Cardinals survived a short start by Jaime Garcia to beat Milwaukee 7-1 Friday night and take a 3-2 lead in the NL championship series. Yadier Molina and Matt Holliday had three hits each for St. Louis, which burst to [...]

Delay

I have some good news and some bad news. I’ll start with the bad news. Today’s post isn’t ready to be published, well, today. It’s a 5,000-word research paper, sent in by a couple of readers, and I’d like another day to edit and get the format looking appropriate for publication. The good news is [...]

Rangers hoping LHP Holland will be calm (AP)

Derek Holland insists he didn’t feel jittery while starting Game 2 of the AL championship series. The Texas left-hander sure looked and pitched like it, giving up four hits and four walks while getting just eight outs against Detroit. As he prepares to start Game 6 on Saturday, the 25-year-old with the fuzzy mustache says [...]

Should the Royals sell stadium naming rights

Reports are out today that the Royals partners across the parking lot have agreed to sell the naming rights to the stadium (the early rumors point to Google, but they are just rumors). The team may still include "Arrowhead" in the name somewhere, but it will no longer be called just "Arrowhead Stadium" as it has since its inception in 1972.

Kauffmanstatue_medium

Kauffman Stadium is different as it was called Royals Stadium from its construction until 1994 when it was named after the beloved owner Ewing Kauffman who had then recently passed away. Having the name of an iconic figure in the stadium name makes it a bit more sacred and perhaps a bit more crass to sell the naming rights.

But baseball is a competitive industry and if it can bring more revenue to the club that, in theory, can be used to invest in better players, should the team sell the naming rights? Can we live with "Cerner Field at Kauffman Stadium"? "Applebee's Park at Kauffman Stadium"? "Oklahoma Joe's BBQ Pit at Kauffman Stadium"? Could the team be creative like Sporting Kansas City and donate the naming rights to a charity? Any preferred corporate partners?
