William Beckwith's Three Homers Power Danville's
Offense, Pastornicky Injures Leg in Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap

The rain affected a couple of games tonight but it didn't stop William Beckwith from exploding in Burlington. Gwinnett didn't look good in their game against Matt Fox and Mississippi got shut down against a top draft pick from this year's draft. Rome did deliver some power in place of the Lynchburg game getting cancelled.

The G-Braves got shut down by journeyman Matt Fox in this one. Fox went the distance and allowed just two hits and one walk while throwing just 99 pitches. Brandon Hicks picked up one of the hits when he replaced Tyler Pastornicky who left the game in the sixth inning with a leg injury.

The M-Braves went up against Trevor Bauer - the third pick from this year's draft and possessor of nasty stuff - in his first appearance in AA. Bauer is on the fast track after pitching just two games in A ball before making the jump. Luckily for the Braves Arizona is still stretching him out because he shut them down for five innings while striking out eight. Their luck didn't last however as Benino Pruneda allowed the winning run to score when he made an error on a pickoff allowing the runner to advance from first to third. He later scored on a single.

The impressive part about the Braves offensive outburst in this game is that four of the nine hitters went hitless, but when the guys that are hitting are hitting for power it doesn't matter as much. Matt Weaver is finally starting to add a little power to his game as he has now equaled his July extra base hit total in about half the at bats in August. Robby Hefflinger has always been a guy that looks like he should hit for power but it has never come through in games. He has three homers in his last ten games but he still isn't hitting many doubles either. Evan Gattis would lead the league in SLG and OPS if he qualified.

William Beckwith has been on a tear over the past week but tonight he put up the line of any Braves hitter this season. He was up to bat for the fifth time in the eighth inning when the game was called because of rain. Drury had another great night as well and has raised his average 25 points in the last 10 games and has 11 hits in his last four games.

Triple Slash: Batters (BA/OBP/SLG) Pitchers (ERA/FIP/GO:AO)

Triple-A: The Storm Chasers went 3-3 this week, splitting a four-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies. They start a series on Friday against the Salt Lake Bees.

Mike Montgomery (5.31/4.62/1.20) - Montgomery made two starts this week. In his first start this week, the lefty tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on nine hits. Mike struck out six, and walked two. In his second start, Monty allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out six and walking three. Between the two starts, Montgomery allowed three home runs.

Lorenzo Cain (.312/.382/.515) - Cain had a below average week, going 5-for-23 at the plate. The centerfielder did smack two home runs and a double.

David Lough (.313/.361/.486) - Lough went 7-for-23 at the plate, and reached base with a walk. The rightfielder hit a double, and stole his 13th base of the season

Clint Robinson (.313/.387/.509) - Robinson had a solid week at the plate, picking up nine hits in 24 at bats. Clint hit four doubles this week, and reached base with a walk.

Christopher Dwyer (5.83/4.57/.86) - Dwyer made two starts this week. The southpaw gave up two runs and four hits across six innings in his first start. Dwyer flashed electric stuff, striking out ten and only walking two batters. In his second start he allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. Chris struck out three and walked three.

Jacob Odorizzi (5.31/5.48/.37) - Odorizzi struggled this week, giving up six runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work. The right-hander struck out four batters and walked three. Jake also allowed two home runs, his eighth home run allowed in seven games for the Naturals.

Christian Colon (.251/.321/.341) - Colon struggled this week, only going 4-for-21 at the plate. The shortstop was not supposed to be an amazing hitter, but his performance this season has been disappointing.

Derrick Robinson (.254/.324/.292) - Robinson also had a rough week at the plate, going 4-for-23. Derrick reached base with a walk, and swiped two bags.

Will Smith (4.25/4.15/1.10) Smith tossed a gem this week, shutting out the Arkansas Travelers for eight innings. Will gave up four hits and one walk, and fanned six batters.

Rey Navarro (.288/.338/.356) - Navarro went 7-for-19 this week, picking up one double. Navarro's early season power surge appears to be an aberration, but his hitting has clearly improved since last season.

High-A: The Blue Rocks struggled this week, going 2-5. They play the second game of a four-game series against the Lynchburg Hillcats Friday.

Timothy Melville (4.56/3.66/1.20) - Melville only pitched 2.2 innings in his start this week, allowing four runs on five hits. The righty struck out five batters, but walked four. If Melville continues to struggle, the Royals may move him back to the bullpen and limit his innings.

Noel Arguelles (3.20/3.56/.73) - Arguelles made two starts this week. The southpaw was battered in his first start, allowing six runs and seven hits in 2.2 innings. Arguelles walked four batters, and only struck out one. Noel was stronger in his second start, throwing five shutout innings. Arguelles gave up two hits and three walks, but struck out five.

Low-A: The Cougars won three and lost four this week. They finish their series Friday night against the Peoria Chiefs.

Cheslor Cuthbert (.305/.359/.455) - Cuthbert only played in four games this week, going 2-for-13 at the plate. Both of the third basemans hits were doubles, and he also drew one walk.

Brett Eibner (.220/.335/.445) - Eibner picked up five hits this week in 23 at bats. Three of Brett's hits were doubles, and he also collected one walk. Strikeouts continue to be an issue for the centerfielder, fanning in 25.6% of his at-bats.

Yordano Ventura (4.90/3.45/1.17) - Ventura made two starts this week. In his first start, he allowed no runs and two hits in four innings. The right-hander fanned five batters, and walked none. Yordano was less effective in his second start, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings. Ventura struck out four batters and walked two.

Jason Adam (4.39/4.09/1.11) Adam threw five innings in his start this week, giving up an unearned run and two hits. Jason struck out and walked two batters.

Game 122: Esmil Rogers vs. Edwin Jackson

Perhaps the problem the last 16 Sundays was that the Rockies didn't have a real winner on the mound like Alan Johnson. In Esmil Rogers, who is 6-1 despite a 5.85 ERA, Colorado may have finally found the man with the right formula of mental toughness, intestinal fortitude, and a nationally televised night baseball outing to end this four month Sunday losing streak.

Facing him will be the oft-traded (I believe the count is near six by now), no-hitter throwing Edwin Jackson. Dude's an above average pitcher in terms of numbers (2.8 fWAR already) moving from the AL Central to the NL Central, but he'll be facing the mighty Esmil Rogers, the prospect of which can't be pleasing to him.
