Guard your grill knuckle up, Wake delivers the goods. (AP Photo)Last night Tim was timeless as he flirted with a no-no, and helped the Red Sox to a 3-0 victory. Seeing Tim do this last night was very impressive because I really think this was a win the[...]

Add to myYahoo!Just checking in on the 12-0 Baltimore blowout over the Yankees (thanks to craptacular pitching performances by Steve Karstens and Jim Brower), I noticed Paul Shuey had been called into the game. He looks a little different than he did in his Dodger playing days:

How cool would it have been if he were sporting one of these bad boys with the Dodgers instead of that goatee? Not that I've got anything against the minibeard — I wear one myself — but dayam that is one great pornstache.

Add to myYahoo!Experience is a mere whiff or rumble, produced by enormously complex and ill-deciphered causes of experience; and in the other direction, experience is a mere peephole through which glimpses come down to us of eternal things. George "Don't Call Me Johan" SantayanaExperience is the name every one gives to their mistakes. Oscar "Azocar" Wilde I got a nice mention in Todd Zolecki's column in the Inquirer today. Todd noticed that the Phils had three relievers (Jose Mesa, Tom Gordon, and Antonio Alfonseca) who have over 100 career savesoddly, none of whom is the closer, and he asked if that was an uncommon occurrence.

Add to myYahoo! There's a certain irony to the fact that the last game the Yankees played during Phil Rizzuto's lifetime ended with a situation taylor-made for a Scooter squeeze bunt only to see the team decline the opporunity to put on the play. It's also fitting that that game was won in that situation on a dink hit by the Yankee shortstop, a player who won the Rookie of the Year award in Rizzuto's final season as a Yankee broadcaster much to the enduring delight of the Scooter himself, and a player who has come to replace Rizzuto as the greatest Yankee shortstop of all time.

Add to myYahoo!Shea Hillenbrand, who played exactly five games at first for the Angels, will now be the Dodgers' starting third baseman as Nomar Garciaparra goes down on the DL with a strained calf that we somehow hadn't heard about previous to this message. Also, Eric Hull gets the callup from Vegas, and will be in the bullpen.
Update: Jon points out that Tony Abreu is off the inactive list.
