It’s not as if Gene Lamont suddenly decided he wanted to manage again. “It’s kind of a burning desire. It always has been,” Lamont, who hasn’t managed in 12 years, told reporters at Fenway Park on Saturday after interviewing for the job as Terry Francona’s replacement with the Red Sox.

Saturday Rockpile: Rockies Show Interest in Grady
Sizemore

We already have an outfielder that does enough of this, thanks.

Rockies show an interest in Sizemore - The Denver Post
While the Rockies reported remain focused on acquiring Martin Prado from Atlanta, they have also been talking with the Grady Sizemore camp. He is an interesting bounce-back candidate; the 29 year-old outfielder last showed a pulse on a baseball field in 2009, when he hit .248/.343/.445 in 106 games for Cleveland. Sizemore, who has been absolutely overwhelmed with injuries in his career, is likely not a centerfielder going forward, although there may be other teams (Athletics, Red Sox, Mets among others) that would consider giving him a chance to play there anyway.

AVG OBP SLG 2011 - Grady Sizemore.224.285.422

If the Rockies were to take a flier on Sizemore, I would prefer that it be an incentive-laden, single-year deal. If that's not good enough to get him, so be it. Let's just get Prado, K guys?

Arizona Fall League: Salt River 7, Mesa 6 | MLB.com
Tim Wheeler and Nolan Arenado batted second and third in the lineup, respectively, in last night's nationally-televised AFL contest. While they combined to go just 1-for-7 with a walk (Wheeler) and a couple of K's, each player scored a run. Meanwhile, Rob Scahill was charged with a blown save after allowing a run on two hits in 1.1 innings. However, he didn't walk anybody, struck out three batters, and was credited with the victory.

Phillies sign Papelbon to deal worth $50 million - The Denver Post
The Phillies have earned so much revenue over the past few years that they apparently have no problem with literally throwing it away. Sure, Papelbon is coming off a very good bounce-back year after he struggled with his command in the two prior seasons. However, he is a relief pitcher. That's just nuts. Plus, he's a total you-know-whatted you-know-what.
