Braves Rock Johan Santana In 9-3 Win Over Mets

Atlanta got another good performance from Kris Medlen Saturday night in New York.

For the second time this year, Johan Santana managed to record only four outs before being chased from the game against the Atlanta Braves. Santanta was lit up for eight hits and eight runs in 1.1 innings before bowing out as Atlanta beat the Mets.

The same thing happened on April 17th against the Braves at Turner Field.

Atlanta opened things up early, plating two runs in the first inning against Johan Santana. Michael Bourn and Reed Johnson led the game off with back to back singles, and they both scored two batters later on a Freddie Freeman double down the first base line.

That gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead that soon ballooned to nine.

Dan Uggla walked and advanced to third on a single from Paul Janish. Janish moved up to second on throw into third. Kris Medlen then helped himself out with a single to right, scoring Uggla and putting runners on first and third.

Bourn followed with his second single of the game, scoring Janish and putting runners on first and second. With the score at 4-0, two more singles from Jason Heyward and Chipper Jones plated another pair of runs to make it 6-0.

Santana left the game after that, and was replaced by Jeremy Hefner, who was greeted rather rudely by Freeman. Freeman launched a gigantic home run to dead center field over the apple for a three-run bomb, making it a 9-0 game.

The final line on Johan: 1.1 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Ouch.

New York added one run back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a run-scoring single from Andres Torres. Torres' grounder to right brought home Ike Davis, who had singled earlier in the inning.

Medlen was fantastic again for Atlanta, and certainly has made his case to stay in the rotation. He left after getting one out in the seventh, finishing with a line of 6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

The Mets plated two runs in the eighth, both charged to Luis Avilan. Ruben Tejada doubled to score Ronny Cedeno to make it 9-2, and David Wright singled to bring in Tejada to end the scoring at 9-3.

Cory Gearrin recorded the final four outs to seal the deal, striking out two.
