How the 2010 Chicago Cubs Roster was Constructed

The Cubs began Spring Training with 39 players on their 40-man roster ... and the roster figures to have a couple of additions and subtractions before Opening Day in Atlanta.

14 players came to the Cubs via the trade route, six signed as free agents, ten were drafted by the Cubs, five signed as non-drafted free agents, three signed as minor league free agents and one was acquired in last year's Rule 5 Draft.

Here is how the Cubs 2010 Roster was constructed ...

Johnson Homers Twice In Yanks 12-7 Loss

FINAL 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E Pittsburgh 4 0 1 1 0 0 0 2 4
12 15 0 NY Yankees 2 0 1 4 0 0 0 0 0
7 8 1
WP: D. Veal (1-0)
LP: B. Logan (0-1)

It wasn't a good day for Yankees pitchers, and in particular, starter CC Sabathia. The big lefty got knocked around for 5 runs on 7 hits, including a three-run homer by Garrett Jones, in just 2.1 innings pitched. I could pretend I care, but I don't. CC will be fine, and he's not worried. Here's some quotes from CC via Mark Feinsand:

?[The fans] know what I can do,? Sabathia said. ?Last year, I think everybody was panicking. This year, it?s a little easier to concentrate on getting my delivery right and not having to care so much about results. ? You don?t have to come in here and be perfect or worry about what people are saying.?

"I always say results don?t matter - until you get out there and give up eight runs in two innings to the Pirates," he said. "I?ll try to do better next time."

After trailing 4-0 and 6-3, the Yankees did eventually come back to take a 7-6 lead with the help of two solo home runs by Nick Johnson.... I guess his back is feeling OK.

Jon Weber, who is having a great spring with a .700 average, also pitched in with two hits and two RBI. Jorge Posada also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Nick Swisher and Derek Jeter also had RBI in the game.

Curtis Granderson picked up his first hit as a Yankee, going 1-for-3.

But like I said, it wasn't a good day for Yankee pitching. Dustin Moseley allowed a run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings pitched. Then, with the Yankees ahead Boone Logan gave up 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk in an inning and a third. Hector Noesi follow that up by allowing a three-run inning that put the game away for the Pirates.

It wasn't all bad, though. Royce Ring threw a scoreless inning, Romulo Sanchez held the Pirates off the board for an inning and a third, and Jeremy Bleich did not allow a run in his third of an inning.
