Phillies Spoil Julio Teheran's Debut With 3-0
Shutout of Braves

Better luck next time, kid.

Julio Teheran's debut didn't end the way Braves fans hoped.

The Braves continue to struggle against Kyle Kendrick and the Phillies spoiled Julio Teheran's major-league debut with a 3-0 shutout.

Teheran proved he had the composure to pitch in the big leagues, but the Phillies were able to capitalize against him when they needed to. In the second inning, he issued a leadoff walk to Ben Francisco and Brian Schneider followed with a single that sent Francisco to third. The Braves tried to turn a double play on Pete Orr with one out, but were unable to and the Phillies scored first.

In his five starts at Gwinnett this year, Teheran had not allowed a home run. That changed in the fourth inning when Ryan Howard took him deep leading off. One out later, Teheran struck out Raul Ibanez for his first major-league strikeout, his only one of the game.

The Phillies ultimately ended Teheran's night in the fifth. With two outs, Jimmy Rollins walked and stole second, his eighth steal of the season. Shane Victorino followed with a deep triple to right to score Rollins and force Teheran from the game.

The Braves offense didn't do much to help its premiering phenom. Dan Uggla doubled with one out in the second, but was left stranded. Freddie Freeman walked to open the fifth, but was erased on a double play. Their best chance to score was in the sixth. Joe Mather doubled leading off the inning and Martin Prado walked against J.C. Romero, but again, the offense didn't capitalize.

The loss snaps a six-game winning streak. Kendrick is now 6-1 in his career against the Braves.

Jurrjens vs. Hamels tomorrow on ESPN.

Royals notch sixth walkoff win of season (AP)

With Jarrod Dyson on third as the potential winning run, what’s a batter to do? Mike Aviles knew a shallow fly ball to the outfield would work just fine. Aware of Dyson’s blazing speed, Aviles made sure not to overswing and he flied out to Ryan Sweeney in left field. He then watched Dyson score [...]
