Dodgers Belisario to get tests on elbow (AP)

Dodgers reliever Ronald Belisario is going back to Los Angeles for tests on his painful right elbow. Belisario left the team before Tuesday night's series opener against the New York Mets. Belisario made his major league debut this season and leads the team with 43 appearances. He is 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA.

Tuesday's Headlines

  • So, the Jays are making Roy Halladay available. Will the Yanks pusure or even have a shot? Ken Rosenthal has the story. My thoughts: I wouldn't be willing to give up the whole farm for this guy. But, if the Red Sox really make a push for him then I'd consider trading away some of the top prospects.
  • Who's starting in place of Wang? Girardi had this to say before yesterday's game: "We're just going to continue to discuss it because our bullpen has been a strength for us the way it's been constructed lately. Do you upset that for one time through, two times, three times, how many times through? Or do you actually go down and possibly do something there. It will get clearer as time goes on."

Sergio Mitre has my vote.

Ramirez ready for real New York reception (AP)

Manny Ramirez also wants to avoid talking about the past. The Los Angeles Dodgers slugger turned aside all questions about drug use and his 50-game suspension prior to Tuesday night's series opener against the New York Mets. Far from his fans in Southern California, Ramirez figured to get a less-than-sunny reception at Citi Field.

Video of Nomar Garciaparra's Return to Fenway
Park

I was lucky enough to attend last nights game, and it is actually the only game of the year whose ticket I bought months in advance. I absolutely love Nomar, always have, and always will. I wanted to make sure I was there in person to pay my respects for[...]

K-Ros says the Braves should keep Javier Vazquez

K-Ros says the Braves should keep Javier Vazquez

The more and more I think about it (and the more and more poor starts Derek Lowe has), the more I think we probably need to keep Vazquez, unless we are just blown away by an offer (not likely in this market).

Reds pacing themselves

The Reds are exactly half way through the season.  Let's see how they project at this current pace.  It's a stupid process, but who cares, they're playing stupidly.

Offense: 668 runs, 280 doubles, 150 HR, 94 SB, 100 SH
It would be the fewest runs scored by a Reds team since 1997. It'd be the fewest home runs by the team since 1998.  It'd be the most sacrifice hits by the Reds since 1969.

Willy Taveras: 32 SB, 80 runs, 30 walks, 24 extra base hits,  16 bunt hits
- The 24 XBH would be the 2nd most of his career.  The 32 SB would be considerably less than 100.  The real race is for a .300 OBP.  Can he get there?  Also, his OPS+ is 55.  Corey Patterson finished at 48 in 2008.

Jerry Hairston Jr.: 128 hits, 80 runs, 26 doubles, 14 home runs, 48 RBI
- All would be career highs.  This from a guy who is batting .258/.313/.403 this season

Joey Votto: 130 hits, 26 doubles, 20 HR, 82 RBI, 1.061 OPS
- It would be the highest OPS by a Red with more than 500 PAs ever.

Brandon Phillips: 148 hits, 82 runs, 28 doubles, 6 triples, 22 HR, 106 RBI, 22 SB
- He'd be the first Red not named Adam Dunn to top 100 RBI since Ken Griffey Jr. did it in 2000.

Jay Bruce: 124 hits, 76 runs, 24 doubles, 36 HR, 82 RBI, 118 strikeouts
- Bruce leads the Reds in strikeouts and he's on pace for 118.  Thankfully Dunn is gone so this team can score some runs now.

Ramon Hernandez: 126 hits, 24 doubles, 10 HR, 66 RBI
- Team MVP and clutch RBI guy, indeed.

Ryan Hanigan: 46 hits, 16 runs, 4 doubles, 1 HR
- Just kidding, those are his numbers right now.  Then again, maybe he won't play anymore.

Pitching/Defense: 754 runs allowed, 188 HR allowed, 1074 strikeouts, 628 walks
- It would be the fewest runs allowed since 1999, the fewest HR since 2002, the most strikeouts since 1999, and the most walks since 2000.

Aaron Harang: 10-16, 3.86 ERA, 176 strikeouts, 48 walks
- It'd be a damn shame if Harang ends up with more losses than wins again this season.

Johnny Cueto: 16-10, 3.45 ERA, 158 strikeouts, 70 walks
- And two games where he gives up 10 runs in an inning.

Bronson Arroyo: 16-16, 5.85 ERA, 108 strikeouts, 82 walks
- Harang hates Arroyo, I know it.

Micah Owings: 12-16, 4.48 ERA, 112 strikeouts, 88 walks
- and 6 home runs hit!

Francisco Cordero: 2-4, 1.80 ERA, 40 saves in 42 chances
- He'd be the first Red to reach 40 saves since 2004 and only the 4th to do it in team history.

Mets Beltran, Reyes not close to return (AP)

Help isn't coming anytime soon for the banged-up New York Mets. Shortstop Jose Reyes had a cortisone shot because he still feels pain in his right leg, and center fielder Carlos Beltran will need a rehabilitation assignment once the bone bruise below his right knee subsides. The Mets, who had lost eight of 10 games [...]
