Peoria on My Mind

I’m scrambling to get ready for Peoria, so I need to direct you elsewhere today. I’m thinking about fun story lines for ‘08 at Hardball Times and the Top 100 prospects from ‘98 at Knuckle Curve. Also, reader LynchMob has taken[...]

Spring Training Game Thread: Game 9 vs. Yankees

Today is a battle of family values.  It's the Evil Empire (pronounced EV-VILL, like it is from the fru-its of the DEV-VILL) versus all that is good and pure about the Midwest.

Here's your Reds lineup:
Norris Hopper CF
Jeff Keppinger SS
Ken Griffey Jr. RF
Adam Dunn LF
Edwin Encarnacion 3B
Scott Hatteberg 1B
Joey Votto DH
Javier Valentin C
Andy Green 2B

Aaron Harang P, followed by Matt Maloney, Francisco Cordero, Mike Stanton and David Weathers. Also available: Justin Lehr, Marcus McBeth, Scott Sauerbeck, Tyler Pelland, Daryl Thompson, Alexander Smit.

And Gameday for those that are so inclined.

Today's fun fact of the day:  Last season, the Reds were 24-10 in games that Aaron Harang started.  That is the most wins by any team in one pitcher's starts last year.  It is also tied for the most wins in one pitcher's starts by a team with a losing record in the last 30 years (Kevin Brown in 1992).  What sucks even more is that the Reds were just 48-80 in games not started by Harang.  Quality.

I’m generally against anything that makes the Mets better offensively, but it might be worth it if it meant we got to see Mets’ fans have to bring a tenth of their goats, cows and comeliest women and leave them at the door of Hanley’s apartment.Five teams in the NL East. This is what [...]

Heyman Notes: Crede, Sanchez, Salty, Cabrera

SI.com’s Jon Heyman has a couple interesting notes up today.  Let’s check them out:Heyman writes that the White Sox “haven’t been enamored” by any of the Giants’ offers for 3rd baseman Joe Crede.  Heyman thinks that a solution could be San Fran’s hard-throwing relief pitcher Jonathan Sanchez.  But it’s also possible that the White Sox may end up waiting until [...]
