Game Seventy-Eight: Cubs (39-38) vs. Brewers (42-38)
Game Time - 12:05pm C.T.
Coverage - TV: WGN TV - Radio: 720 WGN, XM Radio Channel 175
Location - Wrigley Field, Chicago
Rich Harden (5-4, 4.57/1.40) vs. Braden Looper (6-4, 4.90/1.40)
Happy 4th of July from the CCO!
Weather permitting ... Will Soriano or Fuld his lead off for the Chicago Cubs this afternoon? Following the Cubs walk-off win on Friday, Lou Piniella said the Cubs would be making adjustments to the lineup. Dave Kaplan reported his sources indicated Soriano would be in the lineup, hitting sixth against the Brewers today ... possibly with Sam Fuld in the top spot in either center or right field. Milton Bradley has only one hit in eight-career at bats against Braden Looper (a home run) while Kosuke Fukudome is 5-for-16 with a double and a home run ... it might be a good time to give Bradley a day off.
The Cubs enter play today two and a half games back of the Cardinals, third place in a very tight NL Central ... five teams are within four games of the top spot.
The Cubs are on the verge of several roster moves. Aramis Ramirez and Reed Johnson are expected to be activated on Monday. The Cubs will have to send down two players and the speculation is Mike Fontenot could be one of those players. Kevin Hart appears to be the odd man out when Angel Guzman returns. Andres Blanco has impressed the Cubs with his glove and his bat. Blanco gives the team a legitimate backup at short and has shown more offense than Fontenot of late. Paul Sullivan mentioned during Sports Central Friday night that either Micah Hoffpauir or Sam Fuld could be sent down when Ramirez is activated.
The offense must not help out Braden Looper this afternoon ... but it all starts with Rich Harden and one win at a time.

If you are going to the game, and why not, it is the only way to actually see it. You will want to get there early since the Marlins wives are holding their annual tackle box auction.
The Florida Marlins Wives are teaming together to host the Annual Marlins Wives Tackle Box Auction on Saturday, July 4, during the Marlins-Pirates game at Land Shark Stadium, which starts at 6:05 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
The auction, to be held at the Marlins Community Corner at Section 149, will feature tackle boxes from Marlins players with game-used equipment, autographed items and other objects unique to each player's personality. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the SOS Children's Village.
If someone can get me one of the wives cell phone numbers, FishStripes will bid. And trust me, we will win at least one of the tackle boxes. Come to think about it: Is anyone going to the game? If you are, email me, take your cell phone and some cash, and we will do it that way. I promise you, you will be reimbursed and your name will be entered into the drawing to win it, many, many times to give you an unfair advantage.

Great American Ball Park
Last night was a tough loss, making it especially hard to come back and play a day game today. Once again, I really wish Johnny Cueto or Aaron Harang were pitching this series.
That's not to say that Micah Owings is a bad pitcher, but his inconsistency can be dangerous against a team like the Cardinals, who have a way of making mistakes turn into runs quickly (right, Albert?). Once again, the Reds really need a big start from their pitcher. I guess that's what it's like living with an anemic offense.
The last time the Reds faced Brad Thompson, he threw 5 innings, allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs in a Cardinals 5-2 win. It was Thompson's first start of the season, a role that he's held down since then, posting a 4.86 ERA over 6 starts. As you can see, he doesn't strike out many, but he also doesn't walk many either. That means we should see a lot of balls put in play today. Hopefully they're falling in for the Reds.
Enjoy a safe and fun 4th today, everybody! I don't want to hear any stories about your trip to the emergency room this evening.
