Happy Independence Day!
The Royals are miserable right now. So I'm building a liberty pole in the median nearest my apartment.

Add to myYahoo! We know that Paulino had a terrible start against the Giants, but if you want to quantify it, the game score was 5. This was the worst game score by any Astros pitcher this year. Ironicallly, it followed Paulino's best game score of the year, 76 against Detroit. It's not the worst game score in the NL this year. Bronson Arroyo had a 0 game score. Jon Garland, Manny Parras, and Jason Marquis were the only other NL starting pitchers who had worse game scores this year. The FSN post game guys compared Paulino's early exit in this game to Jason Jennings' boo-filled exit in a start against the Padres in 2007. But it's not that bad. Jennings had a game score of -11 in that game. A key question is how ths start will affect Paulino's chances of staying in the rotation after the All Star Break.
Let me add one more facet to Paulino's stats. ERA: road 10.35; home 4.41. OPS against: road 1.162; home: .727.

Add to myYahoo!Today, we celebrate the independence of the United States of America. Mind you, July 4th was not the day upon which the vote was taken to sever all ties with Britain (that was July 2nd, and the vote was 12-0-1), but rather the day that the language of[...]

Add to myYahoo!25-year old starting pitcher is off to a good start for the Pirates. Morton came over from Atlanta in the Nate McLouth trade and he’s been showing what scouts have said about him to be true. Morton has started 4 games for the Pirates already and he is 1-1 with a 2.65 ERA [...]

Add to myYahoo!Rookie Casey McGehee had a career high four hits and five RBIs to help the Milwaukee Brewers pound Rich Harden and the Chicago Cubs 11-2 on Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak. Mike Cameron and J.J. Hardy also went deep to back a solid effort by Braden Looper (7-4). But McGahee delivered his best [...]

Add to myYahoo!26-year old lefty starting pitcher Zach Duke is pitching his best ball since he was a rookie in 2005. In 2005 Duke was 8-2 with a 1.81 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Before this season however Duke was not much of a pitcher. Duke has pitched in 16 games (all starts) this [...]

Happy Fourth of July!
In someways the fourth of July celebration is great, meaning everyone has a fourth of July so I don't have to qualify it. But then again for some it has come and gone, so I guess the timing isn't perfect for everyone. Enough about that.
The Marlins are looking to even the series and actually win a game against the Pirates this season.
Who better to send to the mound than Big Game Andrew. BGA took the loss in his last start, but that wasn't all his fault. The hitters didn't hit and the bullpen couldn't close the door when asked.
Zack Duke is a lefty. He has done well in his last three starts, but he is prone to giving up the long ball. He has never logged a win against the Fish. Hopefully that trend will continue.
The game will not be televised anywhere. So charge the batteries in the radio and listen to DVH take us through the action.
Ichthyomancy is pretending like it knows what it is doing.
Best of Luck to You!

Add to myYahoo! Lou Gehrig delivered baseball’s Gettysburg address on July 4th, 1939. It was the most inspirational event to ever occur on a baseball diamond. He delivered words of courage in the face of death in front of 61,808 fans. He resembled everything that was right in the game…courage, good sportsmanship and humility. Gehrig’s legacy will never be [...]

Add to myYahoo!Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang left Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a strained right shoulder. Wang surrendered a two-run homer to Adam Lind with one out in the sixth and threw a pitch to Scott Rolen before manager Joe Girardi and trainer Gene Monahan came out of the dugout. Girardi opted to replace [...]
