Add to myYahoo!Francisco Cordero raised his arms and threw back his head, reveling in the big number that had eluded him for a week. Finally, he’d gotten his 300th save. And it came on a night when it appeared he’d be nothing more than a spectator. Jay Bruce and Joey Votto hit two-run homers during Cincinnati’s late [...]

Add to myYahoo!Tommy Hanson wasn’t fazed by the heat. Well, except for all the changing. “I went through three jerseys and three hats,” Hanson said. “I was drenched.” He also was a winner, going six strong innings on the sweltering night to lead the Atlanta Braves past San Diego 4-3 Wednesday and prevent the Padres from sweeping [...]

The Braves avoided a sweep by the Padres, winning the series finale 4-3. Jordan Schafer saved the game-tying run in the top of the ninth on a great running grab as he ran into the center field wall. Logan Forsythe drove one deep off of Kimbrel, after Phillips singled to right and was replaced by Rob Johnson. With two outs, pinch hitter Rob Johnson was taking off and surely would have tied the game up at 4. We all have Jordan to thank for keeping us from the humiliation of being swept by the lowly Friars.
Freeman drove in two for the second night in a row off of two hits early in the game. Mac also drove in one of the Braves' first inning runs, but it was Prado's sixth inning homer that the Braves their fourth - and ultimately game-winning run.
It was good to see Chipper in the lineup tonight after some groin issues last night. He obviously understands that the Braves desperately need his bat in the lineup until Heyward gets back off of the DL. After Uggla and Mather ended a bottom of the first that it seemed like Clayton Richard would never get out of, Hanson gave up a two run homer in the top of the second to tie up the game at two. The dinger came off the bat of Kyle Phillips, who hit his second career home run in his second career Major League at bat (the first of which won the first game of the series in the tenth).
Hanson bounced back nicely from a couple of rough outings, going six innings giving up two earned runs and striking out four. Richard was the loser, giving up a hit parade early on in the game.
Dan Uggla went 0 for 4...

Add to myYahoo! It was this week, two years ago that it all began ? the craziest stretch in Frank Wren?s tenure at the top. 10 transactions were made in just a six day span which would change the state of the organization for years to come. It would be a waste of my time to cover all [...]

Add to myYahoo! The Mets lost a terrible game in the late innings again after a solid start by Chris Capuano although his line doesn’t show it. The Mets were up 2-0 after six innings. In the seventh, the Pirates strung together an inconceivable number of infield hits. They scored 5 runs in the inning. It was compounded ... Continue Reading
