More On Manny’s Offer

According to Dylan Hernandez of the LA TIMES, the Dodgers offer to Manny is as follows:

  • 2009 - $15 Million

  • 2010 - $22.5 Million

  • 2011 - $22.5 Million or $7.5 Million Buyout

Of course, TJ Slimers thinks that this offer is worthy of PT Barnum and blasts McCourt for it.  In his usual style, Slimers has it 180 degrees wrong, but what’s new about that?  Slimers is usually way off base - more shock than substance is what he is all about.  Once you get past the headline, it’s just drivel!

I think the offer is fair, morev than fair and about right.  Hernandez indicates that the Dodgers may be willing to guarantee the third year, but that the offer stands until Thursday.  I don’t think the Dodgers are going to pull the offer on Thursday, but I do think they will try and sign other free agents, and if that happens, they will have to pull it.  If Manny wants to be a Dodger, he has to act quickly.  Ned is dealing from a point of strength - taking charge of the situation and I like that.   As much as the Dodgers want Manny back, his price has to be within reason and accepted in a timely manner.  This cannot drag out until January, or even Devember 10th!  It should be interesting becasuse Ned is driving the train, not Borass!

DODGER NOTES:

  • Andrew Lambo is hitting .320 in the AFL and is moving up the ladder of Dodger Prospects.  I have him in the Top Four!
  • Travis Schlichting is also moving up that ladder and has an outside chance to make the team next year as a long reliever.
  • I will have my Top 20 Dodger Prospect List out in December.  There will be a few surprises.
