Rockies 4, Diamondbacks 0: Friedrich Marvelous, Rosario
Huge

I don't know what you've heard about me, but you ain't gettin' no runs outta me...

Christian Friedrich wasn't perfect tonight, and he wasn't blowing down Diamondbacks hitters, per se. What Christian Friedrich did tonight was go 7 shutout innings, threw 113 pitches, struck out 4, walked 2, induced 9 groundball outs, and limited Arizona to a mere 4 hits. It wasn't quite "The Distance", but when you consider that the Rockies have had a starter go 7 innings a total of 4 times in 2012 (one of them being a Christian Friedrich Loss where he allowed 1 run and struck out 10), it's a pretty impressive start.

At the plate, Wilin Rosario was 2-4 along with his 9th HR of the season and 2 RBI on the night. It may have been an infield single, but it was totally an RBI hit.

DJ LeMahieu and Jordan Pacheco also had 2 hits on the night. Dexter Fowler, Marco Scutaro, Carlos Gonzalez, Todd Helton, Michael Cuddyer, and Eric Young Jr. all had a hit apiece - in fact, that's all of the position players in this game. I'd like to see a few more runs off of 12 hits and a walk, but whatever, a shutout is a shutout.

Matt Belisle allowed a bit more 8th inning traffic than we're accustomed to, and while Adam Ottavino allowed a single to CF to Ryan Roberts, this was a well pitched game.

Honestly, I'm most excited by Friedrich in this game. While Chase Field isn't Coors Field, it's hardly PetCo Park either, and Friedrich had everything working. He located his fastball well, still hitting 92-93 in the 7th, and was dropping his curveball in for strikes everywhere. The punchout totals may not have been as high as other dominant starts of his, but Diamondbacks hitters were not picking up the 25th overall pick in the 2008 draft's pitches whatsoever.

Oh, and Helton, Fowler, Cargo, and Rosario all extended their hitting streaks another game.

Great way to follow a strong homestand.

Graphs, etc, post-jump.
