Really..
Why do I still feel as if, BLARGH!!!
We won the game, in fact, we won big.
But damnit to hell.
Asdrubal Cabrera is now on the DL as well, Betancourt is going to miss at least a month-month and a half.
Who else could we possibly lose?
Victor is pretty much been relegated to DH and 1B because of the knee, we'll see if he catches Fausto today though.
With Cabrera out though...
I think I'd make the lineup look like this.
CF- Ben Francisco
3B/2B - Jamey Carroll
C/1B - Victor Martinez
SS - Jhonny Peralta
RF - Shin-Soo Choo
2B/3B/LF - Mark DeRosa
1B/DH - Ryan Garko
C/DH - Kelly Shoppach
2B - Luis Valbuena
That is crazy, but with the versatility, NOW That comes into play.. Not when everyone is available. Now that you have to use that versatility, it would be a great time to use it.
If Hafner comes back, obviously slide him into the cleanup spot as the DH, Shoppach loses some PT.
We should get a word on Hafner today.. If not tomorrow for sure. Remember he made his final rehab start last night and in order to go back out on a rehab assignment, if that's what the Indians decide, he'll need to stay inactive for five days.
I think this will also depend on if Victor Martinez can catch tonight or not, because if Hafner gets activated, I believe it will be Chris Gimenez who gets sent back down.
Hopefully Cabrera isn't out too long though, and Grady can come back in a few weeks as well. The word on Cabrera is 2-4 weeks.
With the thin bench though, expect to see some Josh Barfield starting for real though. Either at second or in the outfield. With the way Valbuena is hitting, I'd think he should use him more than he might want to, because Wedge is a jerk.
The important thing though is the Indians won the game and they won it big.
Like they really supported their ace out there.
He's been hard-pressed to get runs and he was just 2-6 heading into last-nights game, through no fault of his own. Last night though, ten runs was plenty as Lee gave up just one run in eight innings to lower his ERA below 3.00 to 2.96.
Cliff is pitching just as well as he did last year, but I think Rick Manning put it best. He's just not getting the bounces he did last year. Sure he's pitching well, but he's not getting as much run support.. Balls aren't dropping in the right spot for the offense or for him at points, he's just not getting the luck on his side that he had to win all those games. The pitching is there, the wins aren't, but that isn't his fault.
"I've feel just as confident going on the mound now than I ever have," he said. "Obviously, I'm probably never going to have a season statistically like I did last year. But I feel I'm giving the team a chance to win every time I go out there. That's my job and that's what I'm focused on."As for that little spat with Gomez, which probably had something to do with the little thing they got into last year, Lee is leaving that alone.
"I'm want to leave that alone," said Lee. "I'm not going to comment."Wedge said it was competitive jawing, Gomez didn't really want to talk about it either, but offered up what Victor said to him.
"He said to take it easy, play the game," Gomez said of Martinez. "'This is not baseball.' I said, all right."Big ups to the Indians offense though, especially Jhonny Peralta who finally got that second home run of the year out of the way. Hopefully it keeps coming from him, because this team really goes when Peralta is knocking in runs.
