Royals Lineup for July 3rd, 2009

Hello all. I'm a regular over at the Atlanta Braves "Talking Chop" board, but as a resident of Kansas City, I'm also a fan of the Royals. This is my first post on this board, so I hope you all enjoy it.

Let's play a game I like to call "Marvel at how terrible the Royals lineup on July 3rd, 2009 was." Here we go!

1. David DeJesus, LF .248/.300/.407; wOBA: .308; UZR/150: +14.9; WAR: 1.2
2. Alberto Callaspo, 2B .297/.348/.446; wOBA: .342; UZR/150: -9.7; WAR: 0.8
3. Billy Butler, 1B .289/.339/.440; wOBA: .340; UZR/150: 2.0; WAR: 0.8
4. Jose Guillen, RF .248/.327/.387; wOBA: .319; UZR/150: -34.8; WAR: -1.1
5. Miguel Olivo, C .253/.275/.505; wOBA: .332; WAR: 1.2
6. Mike Jacobs, DH .223/.302/.403; wOBA: .308; UZR/150: 1.0; WAR: -0.2
An addendum on Mike Jacobs: Trey Hillman continues to trot him out against LHP, despite putting up these stellar numbers: .188/.261/.275
7. Luis Hernandez, 3B .204/.235/.204; wOBA: .203; UZR/150- sample size too small at 3B, he's an above average SS, so he's probably an above average 3B; WAR: -0.2
8. Mitch Maier, CF .231/.316/.339; wOBA: .231; UZR/150: -3.4; WAR: 0.0
9. Tony Pena, Jr., SS .093/.133/.116; wOBA: .119; UZR/150: 0.2 (probably would end up being better than this, looking at his past history); WAR: -0.6

In summary: Total WAR for entire Royals lineup last night: 1.9
Albert Pujols' WAR on the season: 4.8
Zach Greinke's (last night's starter) WAR on the season: 5.5
Number of players in the major leagues with a WAR higher than 1.9: 78

Conclusion: Fire Dayton Moore. Fire Trey Hillman. Contract the Royals.

Hope this helps put into perspective just how terrible the Royals offense/defense/status-as-a-major-league-team really are.
