I’m a very superstitious person but I’m not a big beleiver in beginners luck. However, through my experiances in fantasy baseball and other fantasy sports I generally beleive that being a beginner can have an upside.
The 2006 baseball season was my first fantasy sports season. I did finish 10th of 12 teams, but I took an interest in it and learned the basics of succeding. The next year I brought gold to 2 of my 3 teams. In my first year of fantasy football, 2007, I finished a 16-0 championship season thanks to my draft picks of Tom Brady and Randy Moss along with my free agent pickup of Kurt Warner. I did finish first in my 2007 hockey league but it was mostly luck as I found it pretty boring. This year I didn’t have as much success in baseball finishing 8th, 4th, 4th.
The point I’m trying to make. In my ‘06 baseball campaign I picked up a low profile rookie on a hot streak named Hanley Ramirez, he prevented my team from finishing last. If I was an experianced player I would have known he was a rookie and hesitated to pick him up thinking he might break down near the end of the season. My ‘07 baseball teams were extremely successful thanks to a great draft, not necessarily free agent pickups or trades, however, I made a trade for A-rod and Ryan Braun that propelled me to a #1 spot. My perfect football team is probably the best example of this. I picked up Kurt Warner to pair with Tom Brady for the likely the two best QB’s on my team. If I was experianced I would have known that Kurt Warner was old and on the downslope of his career, I wouldn’t have even considered him as a pair to Brady. He was kind of like Kevin Millwood. If your looking for pitching your likely not going to consider him unless your desperate.
