Gordon Edes over at Yahoo Sports, is reporting that the Mets are "deep in negotiations" for starter Derek Lowe.
It has been reported numerous times that the Mets have been linked to Lowe, however this is the first time we have learned that they are negotiating with Lowe.
Lowe, who went 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, would fill the role that belonged to Oliver Perez last season.
The 35 year old right hander also carries an impressive post season resume, which consists of a 5-5 record and a 3.33 ERA in 83.2 innings.
Personally, as I've stated numerous times, I believe the Mets should re-sign Oliver Perez as opposed to Lowe, for a number of reasons.
First off, Perez is 8 years younger than Lowe. Perez is also a left hander, which is very important considering the Philadelphia Phillies predominantly left handed hitting lineup.
With that being said, I believe that regardless which pitcher the Mets choose to sign, they will be getting a highly talented and dominant pitcher.
